Fewer Playoff Games Will Drop Next Season's Cap Slightly

This post-season has seen shorter playoff series than usual.

Fewer games means less league revenue, which will cause next season's salary cap to be lower than expected.

But the difference is not likely to be a large one.

Larry Coon projects the numbers assuming that this year's playoff games total 80, which is about five fewer games than the average.

These lost games would result in a deficit of about $12.5 million of total revenue, which would cause the 2010-11 cap to fall to $55.89 million. This is about $212,000 less than the $56.1 million projected by David Stern recently.

Lenny Wilkens Open To Coaching Again

Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens says he's open to returning as a coach in the NBA.

Wilkens recently agreed to serve as a consultant to the South Korean National Team.

"They asked me to take part, so I met with their commissioner and the coach and we have had conversations," Wilkens told Sports Illustrated. "We are working on finalizing it right now."

Wilkens retired from coaching in 2005 after 32 seasons in the NBA.

"If the situation was right, I certainly would consider [coaching again]," Wilkens said. "I have not explored it. But Cleveland certainly has a good team. So does Chicago. A few teams are good and need coaches. Let's see how everything shakes out and then we'll see."
