Suns Have No Trade Offers For Deandre Ayton That Would Maintain Title Odds

Jul 31, 2023 3:51 PM

The Phoenix Suns do not currently have any trade options available for Deandre Ayton that would maintain or improve their title odds, sources tell Zach Lowe of ESPN.

Ayton and the Suns have had tension for several years stemming from his lack of extension in 2021 after he was critical in their Finals berth. Ayton's relationship with Monty Williams subsequently deteriorated but the Suns still matched his offer sheet in restricted free agency with the Indiana Pacers.

The Suns have since parted ways with Williams and have new ownership in Mat Ishbia. Frank Vogel is attempting to repair the relationship with Ayton as he begins his first season as head coach.

Deandre Ayton: My Goal Is To Change The Narrative

Jul 20, 2023 4:10 PM

Deandre Ayton is likely to remain with the Phoenix Suns in 23-24 after another offseason in which he was in trade rumors and his status with the team has come under scrutiny.

“I can feel the whole world hating me in a way,” Ayton said in the 37-second video clip Eyewitness News Bahamas tweeted. “I’m the guy a lot of people point at and I see it and feel it, but mainly what I’ve been working on five to six days a week since we’ve lost is just motivating myself to change the narrative of what people think about me. No matter you put it, I feel like I have no fans out there and I can feel it because the whole world is saying it. My goal is over the summer is to change the narrative. Just unlock whatever it is and just completely just focus on me and change the whole thing.”

Frank Vogel is attempting to build a relationship with Ayton after the center had a tumultuous tenure with Monty Williams.

“He's one of the best two-way centers in the game," Vogel said during his introductory press conference. "I think obviously he's going to be a defensive anchor for us. I've long utilized his set in my defensive scheme to build a dominant defense. I think he can do that and I think there's a lot that we can untap offensively with him as well. So he's pivotal part of what we're going to accomplish this year."

Mat Ishbia Teases Suns Will Have G League Team

Jul 18, 2023 9:31 AM

On a recent appearance with Burns & Gambo on Arizona Sports 98.7, Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia talked about the importance of the G League. He even teased a major announcement when asked by John Gambadoro about the Suns being the only NBA team without their own G League affilitate.

“That won’t be something you’ll be talking about in a week or two, how about that?” Ishbia replied to the question.

Ishbia later added, “We’re gonna continue to invest in our team. We’re gonna invest in our future. And a G League team is important.”

The Suns previously had a G League team, but former owner Robert Sarver chose to sell the Northern Arizona Suns, who were then relocated. The Portland Trail Blazers recently announced that the Rip City Remix will begin play this upcoming season. That leaves Phoenix as the only NBA team without their own G League affiliate.

Suns Acquire Three Second Round Picks From Magic For First Round Pick Swap

Jul 16, 2023 11:59 AM

The Phoenix Suns continue to replenish their draft pick coffers, after trading most of their picks in the Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal deals. The Suns latest deal to add future picks was with the Orlando Magic.

Orlando is sending Phoenix three second-round picks in exchange for the right to swap 2026 first-round picks. 2026 is one of the few remaining Suns first-round picks that they own outright.

Phoenix had previously worked a similar deal with the Memphis Grizzlies to add three second-round picks. That brings Phoenix to a total of six second-round selections added over the last two weeks.

James Jones Feels Settled, Energized By Front Office Structure Of Suns

Jul 13, 2023 12:09 PM

The future of James Jones was uncertain when Mat Ishbia assumed ownership of the Phoenix Suns in February.

On of Ishbia's first big personnel moves was hiring Josh Bartelstein to oversee both business and basketball for the franchise, placing someone ahead of Jones on the org chart.

But Jones has embraced the challenge and retains strong influence, which has left him energized, reports ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

"Josh was hired as the CEO and I wanted him to come in and lead as the CEO," Jones said. "Mat became the owner and I was ready for him to come in and set the direction as owner. We had been in limbo for far too long."

Jones was a driving force in the decision to fire Monty Williams, sources tell Windhorst.
